Established in 1925 and named after Florida’s late Governor John Wellborn Martin, the county is rich in history. In fact, several national historic landmarks reside in Martin County including the Old County Courthouse, Jonathan Dickinson State Park, Trapper Nelson Zoo, Gilbert’s Bar House of Refuge, Georges Valentine Shipwreck Site, Burn Brae Plantation- Kruegar House, Mount Elizabeth Archeological Site, and the Lyric Theater.
